Family Summer Holiday Activities

IMG_2621Join us this summer for family holiday fun at  St John’s Museum, Warwickshire County Record Office and libraries around the county. Come on a fossil hunt to Cross Hands Quarry and let the kids become History Detectives at our summer holiday club.

 

 

Events at St John’s Museum

Drop into our events at St John’s Museum, you are welcome to bring a picnic and sit in the historical walled garden. Cost: £2.50 per child. Plus take part in the family friendly trail around the museum.

3D!

Wednesday 3rd August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Try out different types of 3D with this digital and hands on event. Find out more about 3D printing and make an object in modelling clay. Build up a 3D map of the local area and watch out for 3D printer demonstrations.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Wednesday 10th August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Bring along your teddy or your favourite toy and join us in St John’s garden for storytelling throughout the day. Explore some toys and teddies from the past from Heritage and Culture Warwickshire collections. Design your own teddy bear portrait and create an origami picnic basket.

Fascinating Fossils

Friday 12th August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Explore Warwickshire’s Jurassic past and find out some amazing facts and records about our incredible planet. Handle some fossils, discover our collection secrets and delve into the past.

Victorian Day

Wednesday 17th August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Watch a live Punch and Judy show and create colourful Punch and Judy puppets. Make a Victorian top hat to wear whilst you take part in the Victorian insult competition. Experience the Victorian School Room and the Laundry and meet some Victorian characters.

Brilliant Birds

Friday 19th August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Find out all about our amazing feathered friends – from owls to falcons, garden birds to ducks and swans! Discover why some of them migrate for winter, and what sort of birds you might find outside your window. Make a bird mobile to hang up at home, and take away a mini bird feeder to feed the hungry birds throughout the winter in your garden.

Survival Instincts Live!

Wednesday 24th August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Discover some incredible facts about the animal instincts of the natural world with the chance to explore the Natural History collections. Make a furry moth and create a camouflage animal.

Sweat and Treats

Friday 26th August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Indulge your sweet tooth and discover how sweets and treats were made in the past. Find out interesting ingredients used by the Victorians and make some sweet treats with our Victorian cook.

Lively Landscapes

Tuesday 30th August 11.00am – 3.00pm

Design your own loopy, lively or leafy landscape. Find out more about famous garden designer Capability Brown and take part in his 300th birthday celebrations.

Thursday 18th August 10.00am – 4.00pm

Enjoy a day fossil hunting at Cross Hands Quarry with our Curator of Natural Sciences, Jon Radley, and explore our Jurassic past. You can keep anything you find! Meet at St John’s Museum at 10.00am, coach travel is included in the cost. Bring a packed lunch. Cost: £15.00 each. Advised for ages 7+. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Arty Tots in the garden at St John ’s Museum

Cost: £2.50 per child. No need to book, just drop in. For Under 5s, older siblings welcome. In the event of bad weather activities will be inside.

 

 

Spots, Stripes and Camouflage                                                                      

Tuesday 23rd August 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Create an animal to take home and go crazy with patterns and colour. Disguise yourself as a jungle explorer, listen to our animal story and make a chameleon.

Events at Warwickshire Libraries

FREE: donations welcome. Tickets must be booked in advance, click here to book. Suitable for primary school aged children. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Awesome Archaeology

For budding archaeologists, take part in exploring archaeology. Make your own archaeologist’s hard hat to wear on site. Handle archaeological finds from our collections and create your own fossil to take home.
