Build and experiment with wind turbines.
A classroom based workshop to investigate the effectiveness of wind turbine design. Working in pairs pupils will finish assembling a basic turbine kit. Using scientific methods pupils will try and improve the efficiency of the turbine. Recording the results of their experiments to make conclusions from. Developed with engineering experts Imagineering.
In the 1970s the Ministry of Defence asked Donald Healey, engineer and race car designer, to design a mobile wind turbine. Let your class take up the challenge and design the most efficient sails for our turbine.
This workshop includes;
An introduction to wind power and aerodynamics.
Practical construction of a wind turbine kit.
- Small group working.
Working scientifically to create a fair test.
Use of technical equipment to measure electrical output.
Making conclusions from the results of experiments.
