Volunteers for Heritage and Culture Warwickshire picked up the award for their dedication and hard work at the British Museum
Organiser and volunteer at ‘Arty Tots get messy with their Grandparents’ Vicki Cureton and volunteers Lin Pilkington and Jane Yeoman picked up the award at the British Museum on Monday 28th October. The Arty Tots group meets every Monday at Market Hall Museum and invites grandparents and their under 5 year old grandchildren to play games, get crafty and enjoy fun times together. The group has been running for 2 years now and a regular group of grandparents have been attending.
“We have been bringing Ewan since the beginning, and we think that Vicki and all the helpers make it a very special place for Nannies, Grandpas and Tots!!” – Andrea and Robert
“I would just like to say a very big Thank you to the team who set up, organise and run our own Nanny’s and Granddad’s group on a Monday morning. This is the only group in the area and Vicky and her team go that extra mile to accommodate our needs, not only Grandparents but our gorgeous grandchildren too.” Lyn Smith – Ella’s grandma
The awards, developed by the British Museum and the Marsh Christian Trust recognise best practice and the innovative ways in which volunteers work in museums and galleries, engaging the public with collections.
Applications were judged on
- Making a difference to their museum
- Improving the museum experience for visitors
- Positive feedback from museum visitors and staff
Rebecca Williams Senior Learning and Community Engagement Officer for Heritage & Culture Warwickshire said ‘It’s fantastic for the hard work and commitment shown by Vicki and the team of volunteers to be recognised in this way. Arty Tots and the Grandparents cafe wouldn’t be the success it is without them giving up their time each week.’
If you are a grandparent who looks after their grandchildren come along to the Arty Tots group. It costs £3.00 per child, £5.00 for two and includes cake and a cup of tea/coffee. The group will now be meeting at St John ’s Museum, Warwick(10.00am-12.00noon) until early summer 2016 while the lottery funded transformation of Market Hall Museum takes place.
