In the box you will find a collection of original objects to use with your class to help them learn about Ancient Egyptian life, provoke conversation and support learning in the classroom. The teacher pack contains information about the objects in the box, local history links and suggested activities that will use the objects. Each activity stands alone and can be used independently of the others. The activities and objects in this box can be used to extend the topic of Ancient Egyptian life beyond the history curriculum. Small ceramic bowl This small bowl was probably used for drinking or holding spices to put on food. It was used by the workers who built some of the tombs and monuments in Ancient Egypt and their families. They would have lived in villages close to the construction sites. This pot was made about 3000 years ago.

Ceramic Ushabti figure This Ushabti figure is made of a type of pottery called faience which had a blue/green shiny surface when fired at a high temperature. It was made about 2500 years ago. Figures like these were placed in the tomb of wealthy Egyptians. They believed that they would come alive and serve the owner after death. The writing (hieroglyphs) on the figure is a prayer to bring the servant alive. ![]() |

Four ceramic amulets The Ancient Egyptians believed in gods, goddesses and good and evil spirits. To guard against bad things happening to them or for good luck, people would wear amulets like these around their necks or wrists. This box also contains part of a small Ushabti figure.

Stone scarab beetle Scarab or dung beetles were seen as very special creatures in Ancient Egypt. They were linked to the heart, and carved stone beetles like this one have been found on the chest of mummies where the heart of the person would have been.
