Show and Tell - How to catch a sea dragon
Fossils and fossil collecting in nineteenth century Warwickshire.
Location - Market Hall Museum
Date - Thursday 13 February, from 1pm to 1.30pm
Fossil collecting and the new science of palaeontology was all the rage in England in early Victorian times. Here in Warwickshire, a wealth of ichthyosaur fossils - sea dragons - captured the imagination of the Warwickshire Natural History Society. Skulls and bones of these animals within our collections - the rock stars of the day - are the evidence for this period of scientific discovery and excitement.
This Show & Tell focuses on some of these discoveries, and what they meant to museum curators and visitors in the mid-nineteenth century.
The event is free, with no need to book.
