In at the Deep End – Kenilworth Abbey excavations

Monday 4 March: Doors open at 6pm, talk starts at 6:30pm

Uncover the history of Kenilworth Abbey with archaeologist Bryn Gethin (Archaeology Warwickshire) and learn about the new discoveries after the recent archaeological work during the rebuilding of the swimming baths at Kenilworth Abbey Fields. Refreshments provided before the talk.

St John’s House Tour

St John’s House, Warwick CV34 4NF

Wednesday 6 March: 3pm – 4pm

The story of St John’s House in Warwick spans 900 years of history, from medieval hospital to family home, schoolhouse, and museum. Hear about the medieval hospital established on the site in the 12th century; of the Stoughton family who built the current house in the 17th century; and see the recreated Victorian kitchen and schoolroom, refurbished in 2022.

This talk will explore Warwickshire's landscape and history looking at some of the gems of the record office's estate map collection.

This talk will focus on the Warwick women who fought not just for the right to vote but to be seen as useful contributors to society; independent people not solely defined by their gender. Women like Westward Heath born Cicely Lucas, whose strong principles ultimately won admiration and respect.

Notebook Making Workshop

Saturday 16 March: 2pm – 4.30pm

Enjoy an afternoon of crafting, creating your own notebooks at the County Record Office. Learn about Japanese and western binding structures and folding methods to create different styles of notebooks with the expertise of Senior Conservator, Donata Santorini. Some good manual dexterity is required as the booklets will be hand-sewn with needles and thread and accurate folding of the paper is also needed. All materials will be provided.
