Workshop outline

Documents will be selected to allow you to discuss how your local area has developed and changed over time, such as photographs, birth and death registers, historic maps, newspaper articles and adverts, and school log books.

The majority of the documents come from the Victorian period with a few from earlier periods. Pupils are given guidance on handling the documents and short exercises to help them learn to look and see the details in the source material.

You are encouraged to bring your own class camera to record details from your favourite documents to use back in the classroom.

A tour of the strong rooms, where the documents are stored, is included in this workshop.

As this is a bespoke workshop we require eight week's notice to identify and select documents for your area.
