The On yer bike! Our Summer of Cycling exhibition at Market Hall Museum opens to the public on Saturday 2nd July to celebrate the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Cycling Road Race Events coming to Warwick this summer! Located on the ground floor of Market Hall Museum, the exhibition, kindly sponsored by The Transportation Consultancy (ttc), tells the story of the history of cycling, with Warwickshire at its heart, and showcases a number of star cycles, including a boneshaker, a Chopper, a Royal Mail postal bike and a bicycle frame made of bamboo! With a cycling soundtrack, alongside vintage film of cycling in Warwickshire in the 1950s, the exhibition will showcase the fun and unexpected aspects of cycling and transport history, as well as illustrating STEM learning to a family audience.
An exciting programme of activities and events animates the main exhibition over the summer, allowing all ages to learn about the story of cycling, and promoting cycling as a fun, healthy activity, that can enable us to spend time with family and friends.
The brand new First Museum, which tells the story of the eminent geologist and palaeontologist Reverend Peter Bellinger Brodie (1815–1897), will also open to the public on the opening weekend of the On yer bike! Our Summer of Cycling exhibition. Step back in time to 1874 and explore Brodie’s study, crammed full of objects, in the heart of what would have been a bustling Market Hall. And finally, Market Hall Museum will be unveiling the newly refurbished The Shop at Market Hall – with a special 20% off in the gift shop for visitors (excluding Makers at Market Hall) on 2nd & 3rd July.
The On yer bike! Our Summer of Cycling exhibition is also part of Warwick District Council’s CultureFest - a month-long showcase of the incredible arts and heritage venues, artists, and creatives in the area, as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival programme.
On yer bike! Our summer of cycling is produced by Heritage and Culture Warwickshire and sponsored by The Transportation Consultancy (ttc); Part of CultureFest.
